What Are We Doing?Community Mobilisers: As the name suggests, CMs work with children, young people (cyp) families and others to start or maintain preventive services. Within each area they work they have helped set up Local Action Groups (LAGs) to enable members of the community to get involved in the development of their area. In two areas Community Champions were identified. These were members of the LAG who volunteered to undertake relevant training and to work alongside the CMs. One of these has since gone on to become a CM herself. Projects undertaken include setting-up a new breakfast club, arts and crafts clubs, street dancing, football clubs, trips away and to other parts of Milton Keynes, reading groups, tennis matches and many many others. The service is run by Milton Keynes Council for Voluntary Organisations.
Young Carers: We support services for cyp who have responsibility for looking after a member of their family. We do this in three ways: via the Young Carers Worker, the Youth Service special groups and special holiday playschemes run by MK Play Association. Gypsy and Traveller People: The Children’s Fund offers general advice and support to members of these communities who are either living in or passing through Milton Keynes. We are also members of The Gypsy and Traveller Action Forum (GTAF) who ensure this community has a real voice in Milton Keynes and beyond. Family Counselling is run by MK Relate. It aims to help families to get together to talk about and sort out individual and family problems. This confidential service runs from various local centres that are easy to get to. Via the Youth Offending Team (YOT) we work to divert or prevent cyp from getting into legal trouble or becoming the victims of crime. This is done via the Youth Crime Prevention Workers (Platform) who work with individual cyp and their families. |
